The Original Rocky's Taco House on Pleasanton Road is a straightforward spot where the real draw is solid, traditional Mexican comfort food that feels like a home-cooked meal. This place fits well into the daily rhythm of San Antonio locals looking for satisfying breakfast, lunch, or casual family meals without any pretense.

The dining experience here is relaxed and unhurried, with friendly service that welcomes regulars and newcomers alike. Inside, you won’t find fancy décor, but rather a no-frills, practical setting focused on good food served fresh. It’s the kind of place where servers check in just enough to keep things flowing smoothly while also letting you settle in.

Breakfast is a frequent favorite for locals, especially dishes wrapped in fresh, homemade tortillas — the potato-egg-cheese taco is a standout that gives the morning a solid start. Lunchtime brings in those who crave authentic flavors like enchilada plates, barbacoa, or lengua tacos, all served with well-seasoned beans and rice that avoid blandness. The portions feel generous, making it popular for families and anyone hungry for hearty Tex-Mex fare.

Rocky's also gets recognition for more niche offerings like menudo and tortilla soup, which longtime San Antonians appreciate for their freshness and bold flavors — not always easy to find done right in the city. The kitchen doesn’t rush these traditional dishes but serves them balanced, with subtle seasoning that shows respect to the originals.

While it’s not designed for formal dining, this taco house hits a sweet spot for locals who want straightforward, authentic eats at any time of the day. Weekday mornings and early afternoons seem especially fitting if you want a quicker bite with friendly service and a relaxed, casual atmosphere where familiar faces mix with newcomers exploring San Antonio’s taco scene.

Rocky’s Original Taco House exceeded my expectations. The food was absolutely delicious, and the customer service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and professional. The homemade tortillas were exceptional, and the gordita plate was outstanding. The beans had an incredible flavor, truly some of the best I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for authentic and high-quality Mexican cuisine.

Haven't Tried The Entire Menu But Usually Get Enchiladas. I Have No Complaints! Food Is Always Hot and The Beans n Rice Is On Point. Oh. Chips n Sauce I Usually Eat Taquiera n That's Always A Disappoint. I Haven't Tried Much In SA But For Now Rocky's Is Definitely A Pleaser. I Forgot To Mention, Had The Lengua Taco Which Was Jus Bout Perfect. Lil Bit Mich On The Seasoning but Not By Much. And A Big Shout Out To Yari On The Nite Crew, Sweetheart

Fresh coffee and the potato egg and cheese wrapped up in a warm fresh fluffy tortilla from Rocky’s made my morning significantly better. I was greeted by a sweet server who served me my delicious meal and made sure I was well taken care of. Overall, great experience and even better food! Thank you!

We've been to Rockys many times. I really don't think i've ever walked out disappointed. The food is pretty good and i've had everything on the menu, well almost everything. One of my favorites is the menudo. It always taste fresh. I wish they would put more harmony. (Pozole) in it. The barbacoa always tastes fresh. The tripa taco are made to order. You can have them soft semi crispy, or super crispy. Iv had the Rockys plate, and it was big. They serve it to you on 2 plates. The Chalupa, the puffy taco and salad on one plate and the enchiladas, beans and rice on another. Oh before i forget tortillas are fresh. The flour and the corn are made in health. They are actually made when you order them. The corn tortillas are so good. They're not thin like your store bot.Tortillas these are a little thicker. They pair very well with the menudo. If I was to complain, the only thing would be that they nick you and die meal for all the little things like onion, Cilantro, extra limes. I don't mind paying it, but it should come with your menudo. But other than that, everything else is great. It's a great place to go after you leave a bar or a club. They are open 24 hours 7 days a week. On the weekends be prepared to wait. Especially if you go around 2am and 3am. If you do find yourself that you have to wait, just wait it's worth it.
